She and Guy, an auto mechanic, are in love and want to marry. But her mother does not agree : she thinks Geneviève is too young and Guy is not wealthy enough. Guy leaves two years for the army, and Geneviève is pregnant. She still loves Guy, although she has little news from him, but because the baby needs a father she marries Roland Cassard, a rich gem dealer, who fell in love with her at first sight and promised to bring up the child as his own... | Notes : A Man and a Woman was France's definitive love story for a decade, the Love Story of its generation, and a thoroughly French example of its take on romance. Upon its release, it won the 20th Anniversary Grand Prize at Cannes. It won two Oscars, including Best Foreign Film. This lovely French Grande -- the ultra-rare color version. The poster has been linen-backed. A man and a woman meet by accident on a Sunday evening at their childrens' boarding school. Slowly they reveal themselves to each other, finding that each is a widow/widower. Each is slow to reveal anything personal so that each revelation is hidden by a misperception. They become friends, then close friends, and then she reveals that she can't have a lover because, for her, her husband's memory is still too strong. Much of the film is told wordlessly in action, or through hearing one of their thoughts as they go about their day. |

Vertigo (Paramount, 1958). Half Sheet (22' X 28') Style A.
One of James Stewart's most challenging roles and interesting performances makes Vertigo one of Alfred Hitchcock's most acclaimed films. This is the highly desirable Style A with a great image of Stewart and Kim Novak in addition to the vertigo-inducing graphic.

| Notes : Vertigo (Paramount, 1958). Window Card (14' X 22'). Many have speculated that it was the loss of Grace Kelly (who left the movie business after marrying the Prince of Monaco) and Hitch's search for a suitable replacement that led to this offbeat thriller featuring James Stewart as a retired police detective who becomes obsessed with the woman (Kim Novac) he's being paid to follow. Saul Bass's striking artwork highlights this wonderful window card. |

| Notes : VERTIGO (1958) - Art by SAUL BASS, Original US One Sheet. James Stewart stars in one of Alfred Hitchcock's best pictures as a detective who falls in love with a woman he's hired to follow. When she turns up dead, his obsession with her makes him change another woman into her image. Imagine his surprise when it turns out that she's the same woman. Magnificent Saul Bass art graces this very cool one sheet.
Much has been made of the deceptively intricate styling of the work of poster artist Saul Bass for one of Hitchcock's best. The genius begins with the selection of the 'nervous font' Bass uses in the top credits, simply calling the film 'Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece.' But the cleverest part of the poster is the uneven plane the central characters find themselves swept into as they spiral into a vortex that spreads across 3/5ths of the poster. The man in black is harming/helping, depending on your mood. The woman is in a police-styled drawn outline, with a pool of blood between them. So engaging is the design one noted director said that, for him, the film began when he first saw the poster. |

| Actor/Actress : Mickey Mouse / Disney |
 |
 |
 |
| Notes : Released in November of 1932, the same year that the Academy awarded Disney a special Oscar for is creation or a nationwide phenomenon, Mickey Mouse, this was his fifth mouse short for United Artists. Disney left Columbia this very year as they were unwilling to raise production costs sor the series above $13,500 per short. After all, the country was in the depths of the Depression. Disney signed with UA and thus began, for poster collectors, the 'Golden Age' of Mickey Mouse posters. The UA posters are full colour and often stone litho, as is this one sheet. There were only twelve United Artist-Mickey Mouse cartoons made and thus their run lasted less than two years. These posters have always been scarce and are the ultimate in Disney posters. This beautiful poster has had only the most minimal fold line touch-up and mounted on paper. |
