| Notes : This was the first Bond film to be labelled abox-office blockbuster, and it received an unprecedented reception from audiences around the world. With guy Hamilton direting his first Bond film, Bond's character became more tongue-in-cheek, and was able to remain remarkably cool and collected in the toughest of situations.
Bond's task is to investigate Auric Goldfinger, who is suspected by the Bank of England of smuggling gold in and out of the country. He seduces Goldfinger's confederate Jill Masterson, who is then very willing to help him discover the truth behind Goldfinger's grand scheme. As a horrific warning to Bond, Jill is killed by Goldfinger who paints her from head to toe in gold paint. Bond then encounters Pussy Galore, who is equally enthusiastic about assisting the ever-charming detective.
Robert Brownjohn designed the British posters, and may of the elements were taken directly from the distinctive title sequence for which he was also responsible. NM Linen-backed. |
