Though the name Clint Eastwood is legendary in Hollywood history now, as a renowned director and actor, but in the early years of the 1960s, he was a little known television actor in a popular Western television series. When Italian director Sergio Leone was looking for a name to help him make what he felt would be a groundbreaking Western film in his inimitable style, he choose Eastwood due to his limited financial backing and Eastwood was cheap. The rest as they say, is history. This very scarce style A teaser for the film made in Italy in 1964, yet not released in the U.S. until January 1967, was perhaps the first poster, it is dated 1966, to appear in theaters to advertise a film that would change all the rules in filmmaking! LINEN-BACKED with folds flattened, photo taken pre-linen-backing. |
