| Notes : Blessed with the gift of identifying the one image which symbolised the movie, SAUL BASS then recreated it in a strikingly modern style. Complex story about a San Francisco detective and his psychological troubles with fear of heights and obsession over a woman.
The graphic designer was Saul Bass. Saul Bass is probably the most famous name in the graphic arts industry. He worked on some sixty movie titles and posters as well as many instantly-recognizable corporate logos.
Saul Bass liked to use stark designs, spirals and favored black, white and red. The poster for Vertigo is a typical example of his movie poster work. Alfred Hitchcock employed him for posters promoting Vertigo, North by Northwest and Psycho. The film Vertigo was about two people behaving in two different ways in the two halves of the movie. This duality gave Saul Bass the context. He was asked to design a poster to entice an audience.
Plainly speaking, the poster is of a man and a woman spiraling into the eye of a vortex. The spiral is white. The man is solid black. The woman is outlined, like the police do. The lettering is the solid black Hitchcock font. The stars of the film are James Stewart and Kim Novak. Their names and Hitchcock's are written above the spiral. The name of the film is in bold at the bottom left below the spiral. Extra credits are written small below the title. |

| Notes : A Man and a Woman was France's definitive love story for a decade, the Love Story of its generation, and a thoroughly French example of its take on romance. Upon its release, it won the 20th Anniversary Grand Prize at Cannes. It won two Oscars, including Best Foreign Film. This lovely French Grande -- the ultra-rare color version. The poster has been linen-backed. A man and a woman meet by accident on a Sunday evening at their childrens' boarding school. Slowly they reveal themselves to each other, finding that each is a widow/widower. Each is slow to reveal anything personal so that each revelation is hidden by a misperception. They become friends, then close friends, and then she reveals that she can't have a lover because, for her, her husband's memory is still too strong. Joe Gillis is floating face down in a swimming pool as the homicide squad arrives. As narrator Joe takes us back six months when, unable to sell a script or borrow from anyone, he pulled into 10086 Sunset Boulevard to hide from men who wanted to repossess his car. The owner of the mansion is Norma Desmond, faded star of the silent era. Under the illusion that millions of fans still adore her, Norma is planning a comeback playing the lead in her own screenplay 'Salome'. When she finds out Joe is a writer she wants him to help her with the script. He moves in, becoming a kept man and the object of her obsessive affection. Meantime Joe several times runs into Betty, the script reader who originally rejected his efforts and would now like to collaborate with him. Norma, now jealous as well as possessive and ambitious, receives a call from Paramount which she believes will soon having her working again with C.B. DeMille. The studio only wants the loan of her leopard upholstered Isotta-Fraschini touring car. When Joe walks out on her she fires a pistol at him as he walks toward the pool and we are back where we came in. Norma must face the (newsreel) cameras one last time.

| Notes : A womanizing music composer repeatedly antagonizes the other half of his party line when she complains of his constant telephone use. Mutual hatred ensues, though the two had never previously met. Later, he manipulates her into falling in love with him by adopting the persona of a Southern Gentleman and playing this personality off of his own in a series of occasionally tag-team 'three way' party line conversations. She later discovers his deception and is outraged. The film ends (hilariously) with him breaking down her front door and dragging her screaming out of bed through downtown New York, past a police officer, and finally up the stairs to his apartment where everything is made all right again by his condescension to marry her. A delightfully charming piece of Americana. |

More men have walked on the moon than had the chance to play the most famous, fictional spy film has ever seen: James Bond. Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig are the six men that have taken on the role of Bond who Ian Fleming first unleashed in his 1952 novel Casino Royale. With following novels such as From Russia with Love and Goldfinger creating international success, producers Harry Saltzman and Albert 'Cubby' Brocolli joined forces, taking Fleming's imagination from book to silver-screen. Since then, EON's films such as Dr. No, Octopussy and Goldeneye have left audiences gripped by the fearless Agent 007 of the British Secret Service, and continue to do so. Characters such as Miss Moneypenny and Blofeld are synonymous with the series, and with a whole host of actors including Christopher Lee and Judi Dench, the Bond series is intrinsically iconic. The voices of Shirley Bassey, Louis Armstrong and Tom Jones have featured on the striking title sequences, adding to the list of famous names, with Adele being its latest addition.
The most recent installmant Skyfall has been more than successful in satisfying the appetites of Bond fans, and keeps the legend of the agent with a license to kill alive.

Scaramanga is a hit-man who charges a million dollars per job. He becomes linked to the death of a scientist working on a powerful solar cell, and James Bond is called in to investigate. As he tracks down Scaramanga, he realises that he is highly respected by the killer, but will this prove to be an advantage in the final showdown?
This is the James Bond movie on which the partnership between Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli is said to have deteriorated. Roger Moore stated in his DVD audio-commentary that this predominantly occurred behind closed doors.
