| Notes : A womanizing music composer repeatedly antagonizes the other half of his party line when she complains of his constant telephone use. Mutual hatred ensues, though the two had never previously met. Later, he manipulates her into falling in love with him by adopting the persona of a Southern Gentleman and playing this personality off of his own in a series of occasionally tag-team 'three way' party line conversations. She later discovers his deception and is outraged. The film ends (hilariously) with him breaking down her front door and dragging her screaming out of bed through downtown New York, past a police officer, and finally up the stairs to his apartment where everything is made all right again by his condescension to marry her. A delightfully charming piece of Americana. |

Vintage original 11 x 14” (28 x 35 cm.) lobby card #6, USA Marilyn Monroe, Laurence Olivier.Warner Brothers. From Terence Rattigan’s play and screenplay came the perfect vehicle for Marilyn Monroe, who with Milton Greene had formed her own production company. It is the story of a clumsy American show girl in London who meets the Grand Duke Charles (of a mythical Balkan country) meets while visiting the Coconut Girl club. He is enchanted by her and invites her to dinner at his embassy. Understanding German, she discovers a political rift between the Grand Duke and his son and sets out to reconcile them. The queen dowager thus makes her a lady in waiting on coronation day. Sexy and desirable image of the great star. |

The acclaimed actor who was knighted as Sir Laurence Olivier, was always comfortable playing members of the aristocracy and Shakespearean kings. Here, he stars in this lighter fare as Charles the Prince Regent, opposite one of the queens of Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe. A stunning portrait of the two legends! |
