Bruce Brown’s documentary “The Endless Summer,” which followed two surfers on an epic adventure in pursuit of the perfect wave, became an unlikely hit when it was released nationally in 1966. He had a bigger mission: to change the way surfers had been depicted in popular culture. He had been surfing since age 11 and believed that surfers were not beach bums or losers. The Endless Summer was the crown jewel to ten years of Bruce Brown surfing documentaries. The search for the perfect wave. Filmed in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii and California. This is a first release US 1 sheet poster in the USA with the same iconic John Van Hamersveld image as the flyers that Brown used prior to Cinema V signing a major distribution deal. Each poster was an individual handmade screen print, not the usual litho printing, and consequently there is quite a lot of variation between posters.  Many, including this one, were cropped slightly crooked - a sign the printers were rushing to meet the demand.
